Resorts World Sentosa 2.0 and the Anchor Strategy Behind Greater Sentosa’s Early 2030s Timeline

The S$6.8 Billion Anchor

Greater Sentosa is a master plan, but master plans need anchors. The first anchor is already under construction. Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is executing RWS 2.0, a S$6.8 billion multi-year redevelopment that will expand the resort’s gross floor area by 50% and add more than 164,000 square metres of space by 2030. The centrepiece is the Waterfront Lifestyle Development, which broke ground in late 2024 and is scheduled for phased completion through 2030.

What RWS 2.0 Adds to the Island

The expansion is not a cosmetic refresh. It includes two new luxury hotels with a combined 700 rooms, a four-storey retail and dining podium, a waterfront promenade, and an upgraded Universal Studios Singapore. Super Nintendo World, the highly anticipated immersive land, will open within the theme park as part of the same delivery window. For Greater Sentosa, these are not separate projects; they are the demand engine that justifies the Brani expansion and the transport overhaul.

The Integrated Resort as a Gateway, Not a Cul-de-Sac

Historically, RWS has functioned as a destination within a destination—visitors arrive, stay, and rarely leave the resort footprint. The GSMP’s integration logic reverses that. By connecting RWS to the Imbiah Lookout Walk, the reimagined beaches, and eventually Brani, the resort becomes a node in a larger circuit rather than a terminal stop. The Waterfront Lifestyle Development’s promenade is designed to blur the boundary between resort and public realm, making it easier for visitors to flow between RWS and the rest of the island.

The Real-World Constraint: Delivery Risk and Market Conditions

RWS 2.0 is one of Asia’s largest current integrated-resort investments, which means it carries execution risk. Construction timelines in Singapore are subject to labour and material pressures, and the phased opening strategy means the full experience will not be available on day one. The broader Greater Sentosa timeline assumes RWS 2.0 delivers on schedule. If it slips, the early-2030s narrative for the entire master plan loses its most visible proof point.
